PROJECT OVERVIEW

For almost ten years I had the honor of designing for the National Museum of African American History and Culture. My relationship with the museum started in 2015 and became one of the most meaningful parts of my career. From the very first website to major exhibitions, public programs, and award-winning digital experiences, I kept coming back to the same thing that drives my work: purpose, passion, and curiosity.

This page is a recap of the projects I led over the years. Each one played a role in shaping my design philosophy and the way I show up as a creative director today.

Project Highlights

The Museum Website

The work that started it all. I helped design the museum’s first website before the building even existed. That single brief defined the design system that supported everything that came after.

Freedmen’s Bureau Search Portal

Co-led the design of the search experience and created the full promotional campaign, including the animated identity, audio-described videos, and the collage-based visual system inspired by the original documents.

Seat at the Table

Branded and animated the museum’s first digital version of this program. We turned an intimate in-person experience into a meaningful virtual gathering during a time when connection mattered.

Smithsonian African American Film Festival

Led the visual identity and digital experience for a multi-day event that centered Black film, culture, and community. The work became the backdrop for iconic filmmakers, activists, and storytellers.

Through the African American Lens, Historically Speaking, Speakeasy

Developed brand directions and event creative across multiple public programs.

Simmons Talks

One of the most personal projects for me. I illustrated Dr. Ruth Simmons, Amy Sherald, Deborah Willis, and Bisa Butler and built the full visual system used across print, motion, and the event.

GOALS

  • Build digital experiences that honor African American history and culture

  • Create systems that elevate the museum’s mission and meet the moment

  • Design work that feels human, accessible, and rooted in story

  • Support curators, historians, and the museum team in bringing these narratives forward

RESULTS

  • Helped define the early digital identity of one of the most important cultural institutions in the world

  • Work recognized with Webby Awards, Anthem Awards, and museum press features

  • Created systems and experiences used across exhibitions, programs, events, and digital storytelling

  • Built long-standing creative trust with the museum and delivered impactful projects for nearly a decade

  • Developed my own creative philosophy shaped by purpose, passion, and curiosity

MORE THAN JUST
A MUSEUM

A STORY OF PURPOSE, PASSION, & CURIOSITY

For me this work was about purpose, passion, and curiosity. Every project taught me something new about storytelling, culture, and how design can honor history. I always tried to bring heart into the work and think about how people would feel engaging with these stories. That mindset is at the center of everything I create.
