I AM A SUPERHERO

A Fine Art Exhibition · Young Heroes

Every child I know is already a superhero.

I Am a Superhero is a series of oil portraits of Black children rendered as the heroic figures they already are. Each painting is built in grayscale with a single color drawn from the character’s world: the red of a cape, the blue of a chest plate, the white of a spider.

Young Heroes is the larger body of work this exhibition opens. It is fine art rooted in Black American culture, painted in oil by hand, built to last longer than this moment.

THE MAKING OF YOUNG HEROES

The paintings begin as drawings. Each hero is researched, referenced, and sketched before a brush touches canvas. The process moves from graphite to oil, from study to surface, and stays close to the specific child and the specific story.

This section will grow as the work grows. Studio footage, process sketches, and notes from each painting in progress will live here as the exhibition develops.
